It’s hard to miss the retailer push for all things hearts and sparkles when Valentine’s Day rolls around. And for good reason—the holiday is a big one for florists and jewelers. In fact, the National Retail Foundation estimated Americans spent around $19.6 billion in 2018. About $2 billion of that went toward flowers. Historically, red roses are the Valentine’s Day flower, but alternative color roses and other flowers are also popular.
People spend nearly as much on candy, too. Though heart-shaped boxes of chocolate are in just about every grocery and drugstore, conversation hearts still dominate the candy market for Valentine’s Day. Whether you’re a chocolate or a candy heart person though, we want to know—do you receive Valentine’s Day trinkets? What’s your favorite gift to receive?
